Hemnet

Inspiration never fails if you browse through the Swedish real estate website hemnet.se

In urban areas its mainly super slick white rooms with contemporary design classics in the form of candlesticks or vases artfully displayed on collectable teak furniture. But if you hunt in obscure rural areas you find the real gold, layers and layers of historic eras accumulated over years. Swedes have always been interested in investing time, money and craft into the presentation of their homes, and my favorites come from before "scadi-minimalism" took hold, when homes are filled with brightly coloured kitchens, patterned wallpaper, and endless quirky details.

Fake Food

I seem to have become the queen of Fake Food, while working for Theatre Lovett on the remount of their show A Feast of Bones.

A strange collection of foam, silicone, latex, six types of glue, paint and varnish has taken over my house and I've been churning out everything from black forrest gatauex to dollops of ketchup and chicken nuggets!

The final strech

I've been frantically finishing up bits and pieces for college, including costume drawing for shows from long ago and a model box. It's been hard to find the time and energy to draw pictures of costumes that have long since been returned to stores and wardrobes or to build a model for a hypothetical show when there are real ones I could be working on. But I'm getting there, just one more assignment and then I'm officially done with undergrad forever.

I've just finished working with a lovely team and cast of teenagers from Dublin Academy of Dramatic Arts on Coram Boy. The best part was definitely emergency baby's skull prop making, which saw me gouging out the eyes of an old doll with an audience of distraught/fascinated 12 year olds.

For a quick-fix, it turned out alright!

New projects in the pipeline

May-September are shaping up to be busy months filled with new projects!

First meeting with Fionn (writer/performer) and Claire (director) today, that left my head full of dreams of curved metal bars.

There's also a new project brewing with Malaprop that had me spending a day shredding paper and plastic. Paper birdsnest headdresses for the summer festival season?!

Photos from the gantrys

Forgotten photos from LOVE+ last February. LOVE+ returns this year as part of Dublin Fringe Festival, re-homed and redesigned for Project Cube.
